FOUNDATIONS OF

EMERGENCE IN TEAM COACHING

GROUNDING YOUR PRACTICE IN

RESEARCH AND INSIGHT

WHY JOIN THIS PROGRAMME

Emergent team coaching is not less structured. It is more powerful.

Research shows that transformation happens when coaches attend to what is truly present in the team, rather than imposing pre-set models or diagnostics.Yet often, team coaches find themselves asked to defend their emergent approach to client sponsors who want “proven methodologies” and measurable outcomes.

That’s why we are delighted to bring you this immersive programme, grounded in doctoral research and designed to help you bring the evidence base behind emergence into your practice.

THE RESEARCH FOUNDATION

Programme host and co-designer Dr Sebastian Fox recently published his thesis titled “How Teams Find Their Coaching to Be Productive”. His work evidences the effectiveness of an emergent approach for teams. The content of this programme draws heavily on the outcomes of his research.

Upon completion of the programme, you will build your confidence in an emergent approach to team coaching through understanding the conditions necessary for emergence, recognising your own positionality, and having the language to speak with authority to demonstrate how an emergent approach can benefit teams and organisations.

MEET YOUR PROGRAMME LEADERS

This programme is co-designed and delivered by two exceptional practitioners who bring both rigorous research and deep practical experience:

Dr Sebastian Fox, Course Leader for Foundations of Emergence in Team Coaching
  • Dr Sebastian Fox is a practising team coach and researcher. His thesis, “How Teams Find Their Coaching to Be Productive,” demonstrates how emergent team coaching generates the greatest impact for teams. It provides the first rigorous academic evidence for what experienced coaches have long known intuitively but not always been able to clearly explain to clients.

As Head of Research at Team Coaching Studio, a TCS Diploma alumnus and Lead for the EMCC’s Team Coaching Special Interest Group, Seb bridges the gap between academic rigour and practical application. With 40 years of business experience across corporates and running his own business, he brings both credibility and real-world understanding to this programme.

Emily Jones, Course Leader for Foundations of Emergence in Team Coaching
  • Emily Jones is a member of the TCS Faculty and a practising team coach. She brings warmth and practical wisdom to the research foundations. Emily has worked with over 100 teams across a variety of sectors and loves the messiness and complexity of the work. She particularly enjoys the challenge of working with conflict in teams.  As founder of Turnstone Coaching and an ICF PCC-credentialed coach, Emily excels at translating complex concepts into practical application.

This unique partnership combines cutting-edge research with proven practical expertise, ensuring participants leave the training with both the evidence and the skills to talk with confidence about emergence and the understanding of what they bring to their work with teams.

WHY EVIDENCE MATTERS NOW

The team coaching field is maturing rapidly. Procurement teams want proof. Sponsors demand measurable outcomes. Organisations are increasingly sophisticated about intervention choices.

And what about you as coach? Team coaching takes a lot of personal resources. Understanding your own positionality, assumptions and beliefs leads to greater self awareness and a more sensitive and transformative practice in the moment.

Surface-level diagnostic tools are often inadequate for complex team dynamics

Transformation happens through emergence, not predetermined frameworks

The most impactful team coaches are those who can bridge intuitive practice with meeting the team where they are at

This programme positions you at the forefront of that evolution.

  • “I found the Team Coaching Studio course Foundations of Emergence in Team Coaching both thought-provoking and immensely practical. The dynamic duo of co-coaches, Sebastian Fox and Emily Jones, balanced theory and lively discussion beautifully. They created a safe, engaging environment, and the blend of whole-group and small-group sessions was just right. With slides provided in advance and recordings available, it was flexible and accessible. The course struck that perfect balance - challenging without being overwhelming - and the cohort was warm and collaborative. I’d highly recommend it!"

    – Kater Waterfall Hill

  • "If you are interested in working emergently with teams, this programme balances research, theory, self awareness, and practice, and gives ample opportunity for rich discussion and learning from each other. It models adapting to the needs of the group live, challenges team coaching assumptions, and reminds delegates how to be clear on their role as a team coach. Seb and Emily are knowledgeable and generous with their offering to the group, demonstrating live how sometimes we need to adapt in the moment.
