Describe your journey as a coachI started my career in the energy services industry in Canada and the United States. I was subsequently invited to join a leading executive search firm in Calgary, and spent the balance of my career in the search industry. I built my own firm with two partners and then sold it, moving to a global firm as leader of the global energy practice and an active member of the CEO and board of directors’ practice. I was able to see first-hand what was and wasn’t working with leaders and their teams, and it required me to dig into the dynamics and culture of the company. My ability to be curious, listen, observe and feel what individual leaders and teams needed from one another supports me today as an executive and team coach.
What is your sweet spot as a coach? My sweet spot is with senior and emerging leadership in industry as well professional services, helping my clients move to a higher level of personal understanding and performance. Drawing on my own experiences in building and running a firm and interfacing daily with successful leaders, supporting them in their trials and successes, allows me to be comfortable with my clients’ needs.
What about you as a person?I’m a curious fellow and love to learn about people. I didn’t know that coaching was going to be such a wonderful learning journey when I started out, so every day and every encounter with my clients brings me something new. A day in connection with others makes a great day.
