Getting Professional Accreditation as a Team Coach

Professional accreditation has become a badge of honour in the ever-evolving world of team coaching. It’s not just a tick-box exercise; it’s a statement that you’re serious about your craft, committed to excellence, and ready to provide the best for your clients. But why exactly does accreditation matter? And what does it involve? Let’s dive into the why, the who, and the how of team coaching accreditation—and how the Team Coaching Studio (TCS) Diploma can help you get there.

1. Why Accreditation Matters in Team Coaching

Accreditation in team coaching sets a benchmark for quality, giving clients confidence in your skills and ethical practice. It’s about building trust and credibility, ensuring you’ve met rigorous standards in education and practice. More than just a credential, it pushes you towards continuous learning and reflective practice, helping you stay sharp and effective. By adhering to established ethical guidelines, accredited coaches are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of team dynamics responsibly.

2. The Key Players: Who Offers Team Coaching Accreditation?

Three main professional bodies lead the way in team coaching accreditation:

      • International Coaching Federation (ICF): Think of the ICF as the global powerhouse in coaching standards. Their Advanced Certification in Team Coaching (ACTC) is recognised around the world and sets the bar high for quality.

      • Association for Coaching (AC): Based in the UK, the AC is all about diversity and inclusivity in coaching. They offer a robust accreditation process with different levels to match your experience and training.

      • European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC): The EMCC has a strong foothold in Europe and is known for its integrated approach to coaching and mentoring. While our TCS Diploma isn’t currently accredited by the EMCC, we value their contributions to the field.

    3. What’s Involved? The Accreditation Requirements

Now, let’s talk specifics. What do these bodies require?

        • ICF Requirements:
              • Training Hours: You’ll need at least 60 hours of team coaching education.

              • Experience: A minimum of 5 team coaching engagements in the last 5 years.

              • Supervision: 5 hours of team coaching supervision to ensure you’re on the right track.

              • Examination: Passing the ICF Team Coaching Certification exam.

              • Pre-requisite: Holding a current ACC, PCC, or MCC credential.

                • Experience: 48 sessions of hands-on team coaching with client teams.

                • Supervision: 6 hours of supervision to reflect on and enhance your practice.
